Ukrainian strikes on Russian logistics are disrupting supplies to the front lines
In recent months, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have been systematically targeting the logistics of Russian troops in the occupied territories, and this has already begun to directly affect the pace of the enemy’s advance. The Russians are forced to impose restrictions on key routes because the delivery of equipment and ammunition is becoming increasingly dangerous and slower. This is according to a report by the U.S. Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
Over the past few months, Ukrainian defense forces have significantly intensified their medium-range strikes and airspace interdiction operations in the temporarily occupied territories, and according to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), this is already creating serious problems for the Russian army, which is losing stability in supplying its units on the front lines.
One telling sign was the reaction of the occupation administration in southern Ukraine, where the head of the so-called “authorities” of the Kherson region, Vladimir Saldo, signed a decree restricting freight traffic on the strategic M-14 highway, which connects Mariupol, Berdyansk, Melitopol, and Henichesk and effectively serves as a land corridor between Russia and the temporarily occupied Crimea.
This road is critical for supplying the entire southern group of Russian troops, and it is precisely this road that has recently come under increasing attack, making the movement of equipment and cargo risky and unstable.
The ISW notes that Ukrainian strikes on Russian ground logistics routes are creating a chain reaction that significantly impacts combat operations, as the occupiers are forced to either change supply routes or take detours, which increases delivery times and raises losses. “ISW has observed an intensification of Ukrainian strikes against Russian ground logistics in the occupied territory of Ukraine, which is causing a chain reaction on the battlefield and slowing the advance of Russian troops. Saldo’s decision to restrict traffic on Highway M-14 indicates that Ukraine’s strikes have made transportation along this route much more dangerous and are likely to impact Russian logistics in the occupied territory,” the analysts’ report states.
Strikes on other transport arteries are also being recorded, particularly on the H-20 “Mariupol–Donetsk” highway, where Ukrainian forces have recently been actively targeting Russian military trucks and logistics convoys.
Analysts emphasize that such actions are gradually reducing the Russian command’s ability to sustain intense assaults, as shortages of fuel, ammunition, and equipment are forcing the enemy to pause and regroup, which directly affects the pace of its advance on the front lines.
The Security Service of Ukraine struck one of Russia’s key chemical industry enterprises, “Metafrax Chemicals,” which was operating to meet the Russian Federation’s military needs; production processes at the facility were halted following the strike.
