Odessa will be the next city to test 5G in Ukraine
Following the launch of the 5G network pilot project in Kyiv, Odesa will be the next city where the new technology is scheduled to be tested. Stanislav Prybytko, Deputy Minister of Digital Transformation for Digital Infrastructure Development, announced this in an interview with RBC-Ukraine.
According to him, more than 300 5G base stations have already been installed in Ukraine to support the pilot network.
The Ministry of Digital Transformation notes that testing is being conducted under various conditions—in both small communities and large cities, as well as in areas with low-rise and dense high-rise development. This allows for an assessment of the network’s performance under varying levels of load.
The launch of 5G in Odesa, along with Kyiv, is intended to help test the technology’s performance in large cities with a high number of users and heavy demand on the telecommunications infrastructure.
Once the pilot phase is complete, authorities plan to use the results to further scale out the 5G network in Ukraine.
Initially, the testing was supposed to last until the end of the year; however, according to an official, it may be extended for the entire duration of martial law in order to collect more data and prepare for the full-scale implementation of the technology after the war ends.
