Police officers used a robot to rescue a married couple in the Donetsk region
Officers from the Kyiv Police Rifle Regiment evacuated an elderly couple from a danger zone after they were injured in a Russian shelling attack in the Donetsk region. The retirees were wounded when a Russian guided aerial bomb struck near their home. Using a ground-based robotic system, police officers transported the man and woman to safety and handed them over to medical personnel.
The elderly couple lived in one of the frontline settlements in Donetsk Oblast, which is regularly subjected to Russian shelling. Following yet another attack by Russian forces, a guided aerial bomb exploded near the couple’s home. As a result, both pensioners were injured.
Their house, however, remained virtually the only one left standing in the village. Despite the constant shelling, the couple continued to stay there.
The woman was unable to move normally
After the strike, the retirees needed medical attention. The woman sustained injuries to her legs. Due to her injuries, she was practically unable to move on her own.
Her husband was also injured. He sustained chest injuries, which made it difficult for him to breathe. Given the condition of both individuals, delaying their evacuation was dangerous. They needed to be removed from the shelling zone as quickly as possible and transported to medical personnel.
The couple was evacuated with the help of a robot
Police officers went to the victims and began the evacuation. To do this, they used a ground-based robotic system. With its help, the injured man and woman were removed from the danger zone. This method of evacuation reduces the risk to the rescuers and police officers themselves when it is dangerous to be in open terrain due to shelling.
After the couple was successfully evacuated from the danger zone, the victims were handed over to medical personnel. Doctors were to provide them with the necessary care. The police did not report on the pensioners’ subsequent condition.
The evacuation of civilians from frontline settlements remains particularly dangerous due to regular Russian attacks. Under such conditions, police and rescue workers use not only vehicles but also specialized equipment, including robotic systems, to minimize the risk to people during evacuation. At the same time, the police are urging residents of settlements regularly shelled by Russian troops not to delay their evacuation and to move to safer areas. This was reported by the Kyiv Police.
