Police detained a Kyiv resident for attempting to disrupt a film festival in Podil
Law enforcement officials have charged a 24-year-old man who spilled an unknown liquid with a strong odor in the auditorium of the "Zhovten" movie theater.
This was reported by the Kyiv Police.
The incident occurred during the "Sunny Bunny" LGBTQIA+ film festival, causing outrage among the event’s organizers and attendees.
The incident took place on the evening of April 20 in the Podil district of the capital during a screening of the international short film competition program.
The perpetrator had purchased a ticket for the screening in advance in order to gain unhindered access to the venue and carry out his plan.

Once inside the auditorium, the young man released a substance with a pungent odor, making it impossible for people to remain in the hall.
After committing the offense, the suspect attempted to quickly flee the scene to avoid identification.
Representatives of the cultural event commented on the situation as follows: “An unknown man, who had purchased a ticket for the screening, spilled a liquid with a pungent odor in the auditorium, after which he quickly left the premises.”
In their view, this was an act of deliberate hatred.

The festival organizers also added: “Unfortunately, homophobes are finding new opportunities to express hatred and contempt for the principles of equality and mutual respect on which our festival is based.”
Despite the incident, the film screenings were rescheduled for the following day.
Community police officers from the Podil Police Department quickly identified the offender, who turned out to be a local resident.
Currently, an administrative report has been filed against him under Article 173 of the Code of Administrative Offenses, classified as petty hooliganism.
