Poland has allowed Ukraine to conduct search operations in Kholmshchyna, where more than 330 Ukrainians were killed

Poland has granted Ukraine permission to conduct search operations in the village of Laskiv in the Lublin Voivodeship, where Ukrainians killed during the tragedy of March 10, 1944, may be buried.

The search operations will be conducted by the “Dolia” Memorial and Search Center on behalf of the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance. According to Oleksandr Alferov, head of the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance, the Ukrainian side received the permission on September 1, and the details of the operations are still being finalized.

The Ministry of Culture noted that this was the result of agreements reached by the Ukrainian-Polish working group on dignified burials, which operates with the participation of both countries.

On March 10, 1944, in Laskov, Polish underground units known as the “Peasant Battalions” and the Home Army attacked a Ukrainian village. According to various estimates, more than 330 Ukrainians were killed, including women, children, and the elderly.

On the same day, the neighboring Ukrainian village of Sahryn was also attacked; according to Ukrainian researchers, 621 people were killed there. Ukraine is still awaiting Poland’s permission to conduct search and exhumation work in Sahryn.
