Renowned human rights activist and scholar Natalia Belitser has died
Ukrainian scholar and human rights activist Natalia Belitser has died at the age of 88. Her son, Kirill Bulkin, announced her death.
A memorial service for Natalia Belitser will be held on June 20 at the Baikove Cemetery in Kyiv.
Natalia Belitser was a biologist by training and worked for many years as an expert at the Pylyp Orlyk Institute for Democracy. She specialized in issues of democracy, human rights, and interethnic relations.
The human rights activist actively supported the Crimean Tatar people and worked to defend the rights of Ukraine’s indigenous peoples. In 2018, she authored the handbook “Crimean Tatars as an Indigenous People.”
Eskender Bariev, head of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, called Belitser an example of professionalism, integrity, and dedication to the protection of human rights.
