Orlov emphasizes that protecting export routes is not only in the interest of farmers but of the entire population, as taxes and foreign exchange earnings fund the military, pensions, and the healthcare and education sectors. Modern warfare is an exhausting battle for resources, in which Russia is attempting to undermine the Ukrainian economy, while Ukraine is striking back at Russian military logistics and oil refineries. Without functioning businesses and stable income, it will be impossible to sustain a long-term defense.
