The Rada granted military personnel who are former convicts the same rights as other defenders

The Verkhovna Rada has passed a law expanding the rights of military personnel who have been conditionally released early from serving their sentences to serve under contract. Bill No. 15225 was supported by 309 members of parliament.

From now on, after one year of service, they will be entitled to 30 days of annual paid leave, a health allowance, additional leave for family reasons, and leave for medical treatment at their place of residence, subject to the commander’s approval.

In addition, after at least one year of service, such service members will be able to transfer from specialized units to other units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The law also expands the list of grounds for discharge from service, including health reasons, disability, reaching the age limit, release from captivity, pregnancy, or demobilization.

As a reminder, young men born in 2009 can register for military service remotely via the “Reserve+” app until July 31. After this date, it will no longer be possible to complete the procedure online.

Reserve+ has resumed services for confirming disability status.

The Ministry of Defense has clarified the procedure for automatically extending deferments in “Reserve+.”
