The Rada has established a new state award—the Order of Europe

The Verkhovna Rada has passed a law establishing a new state award—the Order of Europe. It will be awarded to Ukrainian citizens and foreign nationals for outstanding contributions to supporting Ukraine’s European course.

The Order will be awarded for significant contributions to advancing Ukraine’s membership in the European Union, strengthening international support for our country, enhancing its resilience during the war, as well as for the development of international cooperation, democracy, and peace.

The Czech right-wing populist party SPD has stated that it will seek to strip Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of the Czech Republic’s highest state award—the Order of the White Lion.

The decision to revoke Poland’s highest state award, the Order of the White Eagle, from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is not a unilateral act by the president. Under Polish procedure, the president may initiate the revocation of an award, but the corresponding act requires the countersignature (co-signature) of the Prime Minister of Poland.
