Russia struck the South Bridge in Kyiv for the second time today
Russian troops attacked the South Bridge in Kyiv for the second time on October 1. In the evening, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that this time, the strike hit the bridge’s road surface. Emergency services were already on their way to the scene. No information was available at that time regarding the consequences of the new strike.
Russia attacked the South Bridge in Kyiv for the second time that day. The capital’s mayor, Vitali Klitschko, reported the new strike on the evening of October 1. According to him, the Russian strike hit the bridge’s roadway. “The enemy struck the roadway on the South Bridge,” Klitschko wrote.
The mayor also reported that emergency services were on their way to the scene. “Emergency services are heading to the scene,” he added. This is the second attack on the South Bridge today. Earlier in the day, Klitschko reported two drone strikes near the bridge’s support structure. Following this, metro and ground public transportation traffic across the bridge was halted, and specialists from the Kyivavtoshlyakhmist municipal enterprise began inspecting its condition.
The South Bridge is vital for the capital’s transportation network. It carries both vehicular traffic and the Green Line metro trains, which connect the right and left banks of the Dnipro River. After the first attack, city officials reported that a preliminary inspection had not revealed any critical damage to the structure itself. Surface public transportation across the bridge later resumed, but the metro structures were still being inspected.
A subway train was traveling across the bridge during the first attack. Due to the blast wave, dust entered the train cars through the ventilation system. The passengers and the train operator were unharmed, and the train was subsequently taken to a depot for inspection. Authorities are currently determining exactly what damage the evening strike caused and whether it will affect transit operations. Emergency services and experts are assessing the consequences of the strike.
At the time of Klitschko’s announcement, there were no reports of possible casualties following the second strike of the day. City authorities will provide updates on the new consequences of the attack once emergency services have completed their work. This was reported by Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko on Telegram.
In Kyiv, ground public transportation has resumed across the South Bridge following the Russian drone attack on October 1, but the metro is not yet operating. According to preliminary inspection results, experts from the municipal enterprise “Kyivavtoshlyakhmist” found no critical damage to the structure, so buses No. 22 and No. 91 are already running on their regular routes.
