Russia shelled the Kherson region; six people were wounded
Throughout July 16, Russian troops shelled populated areas in the Kherson region using various types of weapons. Six civilians were injured as a result of the attacks, including a healthcare worker.
The Russian strikes damaged residential buildings, an educational institution, an ambulance, and vehicles belonging to local residents. Law enforcement authorities have opened a criminal investigation into the shelling.
According to the Kherson Regional Prosecutor’s Office, the Russian army attacked the region throughout the day using aircraft, artillery, and drones. “On July 16, 2026, the Russian army shelled settlements in the Kherson region using aircraft, artillery, and drones. As of 5:30 p.m., six civilians were reported to have been affected by the Russian aggression,” the office stated.
According to preliminary data, one person was injured in each of the towns of Mykilske and Krasnosilsk. Four more residents were wounded in Kherson. Among those injured in the city was a healthcare worker.
In addition to the casualties, the Russian strikes caused damage to civilian infrastructure. As a result of the attacks, apartment buildings, an educational institution, an ambulance, a moped, and passenger cars were damaged. The prosecutor’s office emphasized that Russian forces continue to attack civilian infrastructure and civilians in the region.
Law enforcement authorities have launched a pre-trial investigation into the shelling of the Kherson region. The case was opened under Part 1 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—violation of the laws and customs of war. Law enforcement officials are establishing all the circumstances of the attacks and documenting the consequences of Russian aggression. This was reported by the Kherson Regional Prosecutor’s Office on Telegram.
