Sandu arrived in Ukraine for a meeting with Zelensky

Moldovan President Maia Sandu arrived in Ukraine on April 26. The visit includes talks with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, as well as a trip to the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone.

She wrote about this on her Facebook page.

In Kyiv, Maia Sandu will meet with Volodymyr Zelenskyy, after which she will travel to Chernobyl to honor the memory of the victims of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster on the 40th anniversary of the tragedy.

“This morning, as we commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster, I am traveling to Kyiv for talks with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and then to Chernobyl to honor the memory of those who sacrificed their health and even their lives to protect Europe from an even greater tragedy,” Sandu wrote on Facebook.

The accident at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, which occurred on April 26, 1986, 120 km from Kyiv, is the worst disaster in the history of nuclear energy. Following the explosion and fire at the fourth reactor, a significant amount of radioactive material was released into the atmosphere, contaminating territories in many European countries.

The Chernobyl disaster became the gravest test for civilian nuclear energy, leaving a deep mark on ecology, medicine, and public consciousness.

On the 40th anniversary of the accident at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko unveiled unique artifacts related to the tragedy.
