The Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office is seeking the arrest of MP Yurchenko in connection with a bribery case

The Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office is asking the court to remand MP Oleksandr Yurchenko into custody; he is accused of receiving improper benefits. The request is based on the politician’s systematic failure to appear at court hearings and his delaying of the proceedings.

Anti-corruption authorities have returned to one of the long-running court cases involving the MP, which includes charges of accepting bribes and acting as an intermediary in corrupt agreements. This time, the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office is insisting on a stricter preventive measure—detention.

The SAPO’s statement does not directly name the MP, but the case materials indicate that it concerns Oleksandr Yurchenko. Prosecutors have filed a motion with the court to change the current preventive measure and to forfeit to the state the 3 million hryvnias in bail that was previously posted.

As explained by the prosecutor’s office, the key reason for this step was the defendant’s systematic failure to appear in court. In particular, it is noted that the MP missed another hearing due to a business trip he organized on his own, even though he had been informed of the hearing date in advance. Due to such actions, as emphasized by the SAP, the proceedings were effectively suspended for several months.

The prosecutor’s motion is scheduled for consideration on April 28, 2026. The SAP also noted that the indictment in this case was submitted to the court back in 2021, and the proceedings have been in the trial phase ever since.

According to the investigation, the case concerns the possible receipt of unlawful benefits in exchange for amendments to legislation. NABU’s materials state that the lawmaker allegedly demanded money for amendments to a draft law on waste management, as well as for influencing other parliamentarians through the relevant committee.

The investigation also established that during the probe, the suspects attempted to alter their behavior after learning of the special operation; however, the collected audio and video materials, according to expert analyses, confirmed the facts of potential corrupt agreements.

Yurchenko’s case has been under review for several years and remains one of the most significant in the context of anti-corruption investigations involving members of previous parliamentary sessions.

A new scheme for the illegal departure of conscripts was uncovered in Kyiv.

The head of a sapper unit has been charged with fraud involving 6.3 million hryvnias for fictitiousdemining operations.

The SBU uncovered a scheme toevade mobilization through fictitious lyceums.

As a reminder, the organizer of a scheme to smuggle draft dodgers out of the country for $12,000 was detained in Kyiv.

Also, an employee of the Territorial Recruitment Center in Chernihiv Oblast was detained for bribery.
