The SBU has charged a torturer from an occupation prison in the Luhansk region
The Security Service of Ukraine has gathered evidence of Oleksandr Shkorupat’s involvement in the torture of Ukrainian prisoners of war. He served as an “inspector” at the Russian-occupied Penal Colony No. 4 in the temporarily occupied town of Sukhodilsk in the Luhansk region.
According to the investigation, Shkorupat is a resident of Sorokyne who, after the city’s occupation, joined Russian armed forces and later was appointed to a position in the prison administration, where Ukrainian soldiers and members of the resistance movement were held.
Between 2022 and 2025, according to the SBU, he regularly participated in the torture of prisoners. During convoys, roll calls, searches, and forced labor, the suspect beat the victims with his hands and feet, rubber batons, and wooden sticks.
After the beatings, the prisoners were deliberately denied medical care, food, and water.
SBU investigators notified Shkorupata in absentia of his status as a suspect under Part 1 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—cruel treatment of prisoners of war.
Since the suspect is in hiding in the temporarily occupied territory, efforts are ongoing to bring him to justice.
