The SBU detained a Russian informant who was setting up video traps to carry out attacks on Ukraine
The Security Service of Ukraine detained a Russian informant in the Rivne region who was helping the enemy prepare missile and drone strikes against Ukraine’s western regions.
According to the investigation, the man installed camouflaged smartphones equipped with cameras near defense facilities. Russian intelligence services had remote access to these devices and planned to use them to adjust attacks in real time.
The SBU detained the suspect while he was setting up another “video trap” on the roof of an abandoned building near a military facility.
Law enforcement officials determined that the detainee worked at a local agricultural enterprise and came to the attention of Russian intelligence agencies through Telegram channels where he was looking for “easy money.” After receiving instructions, he traveled around the area using public transportation, identified Defense Forces facilities, and installed hidden cameras near them.
During searches, authorities seized his smartphones, which were used to communicate with representatives of the Russian Federation and to gather intelligence.
The suspect was notified of the charges against him. The court ordered him to be held in pretrial detention without the right to bail. He faces up to 12 years in prison.
