Sweden will provide Ukraine with Tridon air defense systems to counter drones

Ukraine will receive modern Tridon Mk2 air defense systems from Sweden, which will help it more effectively counter attack drones and other aerial threats.

This was reported by the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

Approximately €400 million has been allocated for the purchase of these systems—a significant portion of the new military aid package from Sweden totaling €1.2 billion, which was announced earlier.

The Tridon Mk2 is a mobile medium-range air defense system introduced in 2024. It is capable of operating at any time of day and under various weather conditions, providing protection against drones, aircraft, helicopters, and cruise missiles.

The system is equipped with a 40-mm automatic cannon capable of engaging targets at ranges of up to 12 km and firing at a rate of up to 300 rounds per minute. It also features adjustable firing rates to optimize ammunition usage.

The system uses programmable-fuse projectiles that detonate near the target and create a cloud of debris, increasing the effectiveness of engaging aerial targets, particularly drones.

The Tridon Mk2 can be mounted on various platforms, including armored all-terrain vehicles and trucks, ensuring its mobility and rapid deployment.

As a reminder, Sweden has confirmed the Russian origin of the drone that was spying on a French aircraft carrier.

Sweden also allows for the deployment of nuclear weapons on its territory in the event of war.
