Intercity High-Speed Trains Suspend Service Between Kyiv and Kharkiv
Starting 18 March 2026, direct high-speed rail service between Ukraine’s capital Kyiv and Kharkiv has been temporarily suspended due to escalating military activity in the region.
Intercity trains that previously connected the two major cities will now terminate in Poltava.
The decision was made to ensure the safety of passengers and Ukrainian Railways staff amid intensified attacks on transport infrastructure.
At present, direct high-speed connections between Kharkiv and Kyiv are completely unavailable, significantly affecting travel logistics for thousands of people. Passengers who had previously purchased tickets were notified yesterday evening about the cancellations. Messages include instructions for transfers in Poltava to other trains or local transportation.
The route change is a necessary measure, as the railway section between Poltava and Kharkiv is currently in a high-risk zone. Ukrainian Railways is working to maintain at least partial service and to support evacuation and essential transportation needs.
