Russian aircraft took off from an airbase near Japan before attacking Kyiv, according to Sibiga
During their visit to Tokyo, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga and Advisor to the President of Ukraine on Strategic Issues Oleksandr Kamyshin held talks with Japanese Defense Minister Shinjirō Koizumi. The main topics of the meeting were the security situation, Russian aggression against Ukraine, and further cooperation between Kyiv and Tokyo.
According to Sibiga, he briefed his Japanese counterpart on the massive Russian missile and drone strike on Kyiv that took place on the night of July 2 and its tragic consequences.
“I briefed Minister Koizumi on the large-scale Russian attack on Kyiv and its consequences. The Russian strategic bombers that fired cruise missiles at Kyiv’s civilians took off from an airbase in Russia’s Amur Oblast—not far from Japan. This proves once again that Russia’s war against Ukraine is not far from Japan,” the minister emphasized.
During the meeting, the parties discussed common security challenges, Ukraine’s experience in countering Russian aggression, prospects for bilateral cooperation, as well as the upcoming NATO summit in Ankara, its expected outcomes, and further coordination among partners.
Separately, Andriy Sybiga thanked the government and people of Japan for their comprehensive support of Ukraine, which the country has provided since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion.

The Ukrainian Foreign Minister reported on the results of the talks on social media platform X.
