A police officer and a prisoner died in a traffic accident in the Mykolaiv region
A fatal traffic accident involving a police vehicle occurred in the Mykolaiv region. A police officer and a man being transported to court by law enforcement officers were killed in the accident. Two other police officers were injured.
According to preliminary reports, the accident occurred around 5:00 a.m. in the village of Olhopil, Voznesensk District, Mykolaiv Oblast.
Law enforcement officials determined that the Renault Duster police vehicle collided with a truck that was stationary on the roadway.
As a result of the accident, a 44-year-old police officer from the Kherson region died at the scene.
A 49-year-old man, who had “suspect” status and was being transported by law enforcement officers to a court hearing pursuant to a court order, also sustained fatal injuries.
Two other police officers, aged 48 and 20, sustained injuries of varying severity.
Investigators from the local police unit, as well as officers from the General Inspectorate and the Internal Security Department of the National Police in the Kherson and Mykolaiv regions, worked at the scene.
The State Bureau of Investigations (SBI) will investigate the causes and circumstances of the traffic accident. In addition, the police have launched an internal investigation.
The Kherson Regional Police emphasized that they will fully cooperate with the objective conduct of the investigation and expressed their condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased law enforcement officer.

Earlier in Kyiv, a 21-year-old BMW driver who caused a fatal traffic accident on June 30 was notified of the charges against him. According to law enforcement officials, the man did not have a driver’s license and had already been held administratively liable twice for traffic violations.
As a reminder, a major traffic accident occurred on Vyhovskyi Street, resulting in tragic consequences.
Earlier, a fatal traffic accident occurred in the Obukhiv district. A 70-year-old passenger car driver was killed in the accident, and two female passengers were injured.
In Ukraine, since the beginning of this year, 390 people—including 168 children—have been injured in traffic accidents involving light electric vehicles.
