Five border guards from Volyn received personalized firearms
Major General Serhiy Serdyuk, Deputy Head of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, presented the agency’s “Firearm” commendation awards to five servicemen from a combat unit of the Volyn Border Guard Detachment.
All of the recipients are combat veterans who defended the country against invaders on various fronts in the Donetsk and Kharkiv regions. Personalized firearms were awarded to Senior Lieutenant Yuriy Hanushchak, as well as to servicemen Oleksandr, call sign “Kompas,” Serhiy, with the call sign “Ares,” Andriy, with the call sign “Trofim,” and Oleksandr, with the call sign “Salto.”
One of the honorees, 41-year-old Lviv native Yuriy Hanushchak, has served in the State Border Guard Service since 2023. After signing his contract, he served for about a year on the Ukrainian-Belarusian border in the Volyn region, and later, as part of the Rapid Response Border Command, he was deployed on a long-term rotation to the Kharkiv region. According to the officer, amid constant shelling and attacks by enemy drones, his main task was to set up strongpoints and ensure the safety of personnel during rotations at their positions. Currently, the border guards continue to serve in a combat unit.
