An illegal border-crossing scheme was uncovered in Zakarpattia
In the highlands of the Carpathians, border guards detained two residents of Zakarpattia who were attempting to smuggle a man from the Kyiv region into Romania. The organizers accompanied him only part of the way, after which he was supposed to continue on his own, according to the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.
In Zakarpattia, border guards thwarted an attempt to illegally transport a man across the state border with Romania, which involved traveling along a difficult mountain route in the highlands of the Carpathians. According to the Border Guard Service, two local residents organized the scheme and were supposed to transport the 29-year-old man from the Kyiv region to the border zone, using hard-to-reach areas and abandoned buildings for temporary shelter.
Before the actual border crossing, the man was left waiting in an abandoned building, after which the smugglers began escorting him toward the state border, and he was to navigate the most dangerous part of the route on his own.
The organizers planned to receive $4,000 for their “services,” but border guards from the “Dilove” unit, together with the “Dozor” special unit, prevented them from carrying out their plan.
As a result of joint operations with the police and under the procedural supervision of the prosecutor’s office, both suspects were detained, notified of the charges against them, and an administrative report was filed against the man who attempted to cross the border.
The court imposed a preventive measure on the detainees in the form of 60 days of pretrial detention with the right to post bail of 530,000 hryvnias each; the investigation is ongoing.
Earlier, the SBU’s military counterintelligence, in cooperation with the State Bureau of Investigations, exposed another agent of the Russian special services within the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
