It has been revealed how many firearms were declared in Ukraine

Since the launch of the registration process in Ukraine, citizens have already registered more than 21,800 firearms, according to official data.

Yulia Girdvilis, spokesperson for the National Police of Ukraine, told Ukrinform about this.

Since November 25, 2024—that is, since the day Law of Ukraine No. 3899-IX came into effect—19,822 people have applied, declaring a total of 21,867 firearms and nearly 13 million rounds of ammunition,” she said.

As a reminder, in September 2019, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy rejected a petition calling for the legalization of firearms, stating that it would be a “premature decision” for a country at war.

In March of last year, the Verkhovna Rada was unable to pass either of the two bills on the circulation of civilian firearms in the first reading. However, in February of this year, Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov supported the initiative to legalize firearms. He stated that it is precisely the possession of firearms by Ukrainians that can deter “potential adversaries.”

On February 23 of this year, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine finally passed the “On Civil Firearms” law in its first reading.
