A court placed the deputy mayor of Kharkiv under house arrest following a fatal traffic accident
The Kyiv District Court of Kharkiv has imposed a preventive measure on Ivan Kuznetsov, the deputy mayor of Kharkiv, who was involved in a fatal traffic accident.
This was reported by the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
The court granted the prosecution’s motion and ordered the official to be placed under nighttime house arrest until July 26.
Kuznetsov has been notified of charges under the article regarding violation of traffic safety rules resulting in the death of a person.
According to the investigation, while driving, the official failed to ensure the safety of the maneuver when turning left and did not yield to an oncoming motorcycle. The motorcycle driver died as a result of the collision.
Kuznetsov himself stated after the accident that he had stepped down from his official duties for the duration of the investigation. According to him, before beginning the maneuver, he made sure that other cars were letting him pass, but he did not see the motorcycle due to limited visibility.
Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov confirmed that his deputy had submitted a request to be suspended from his duties for the duration of the investigation. According to the mayor, a person to temporarily perform his duties will be appointed in the near future.
The prosecutor’s office emphasizes that the circumstances of the accident are still being established as part of the pre-trial investigation.
