Shirshin, a former battalion commander of the 47th Brigade, was detained in Kharkiv
In Kharkiv, police stopped a car driven by Oleksandr Shyrshyn, the former commander of the 47th Mechanized Brigade’s “Magura” battalion. According to law enforcement officials, they had information about possible drugs in the car, and during a search, they seized packages containing a plant-based substance.
The Kharkiv Regional Police released an official account of the events that took place on the afternoon of August 28. According to law enforcement, the Audi was stopped based on intelligence indicating that the driver might be in possession of narcotics. Additionally, police stated that the vehicle’s license plate did not match the vehicle itself.
The driver turned out to be a military servicemember. Police noted that he agreed to a search of the vehicle. While speaking with law enforcement officers, the man retrieved a package from the armrest between the seats. Inside were two black bags, a scale, and a plant-based substance. “The driver unwrapped the bundle, placed it on the roof of the car, and claimed that the prohibited substances did not belong to him,” the police reported.
After that, an investigative team arrived at the scene. During the search, law enforcement officers seized two black zip-top bags containing a green plant-based substance. It is currently unknown exactly what is contained in the seized bags. The substance will be sent for analysis to determine its composition and origin.
Investigators have entered information regarding this incident into the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations. Criminal proceedings have been initiated under Part 2 of Article 307 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—the illegal production, manufacture, acquisition, storage, or sale of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, or their analogues. “The seized substance will be sent for expert analysis to determine its composition and origin. The necessary investigative actions are currently underway. The pretrial investigation is ongoing,” the police added.
Thus, at this point, this is only the law enforcement agencies’ version of events and the ongoing investigation. It is up to the forensic examination and the investigation to definitively determine what exactly was in the seized packages and to whom the substance belonged.
