A man who detonated a grenade in the yard of a house was convicted in Khmelnytskyi
In Khmelnytskyi, a court sentenced a 46-year-old local resident to 3 years and 6 months in prison for detonating an RGD-5 grenade in the courtyard of a residential building.
As a result of the explosion, the man himself suffered severe injuries and lost an arm, and a 60-year-old passerby was also injured.
The incident occurred on September 8, 2025, at approximately 7:00 p.m. on Zarichanska Street in Khmelnytskyi.
According to the Khmelnytskyi Regional Police, a local resident detonated an RGD-5 grenade in the courtyard of a residential building.
As a result of the explosion, the 46-year-old man suffered severe injuries—his arm had to be amputated.
A bystander was also injured; the 60-year-old man sustained minor injuries.
Law enforcement officers detained the Khmelnytskyi resident in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
He was subsequently notified that he was suspected of hooliganism and illegal handling of ammunition.
After the pretrial investigation was completed, the indictment was sent to court for consideration.
The court found the 46-year-old Khmelnytskyi resident guilty under Part 4 of Article 296 and Part 1 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
For the offense committed, he was sentenced to 3 years and 6 months of imprisonment.
Thus, the man received an actual prison sentence for detonating a grenade in the courtyard of a residential building, which resulted in him sustaining serious injuries and a bystander suffering bodily harm.
