On the Day of Mourning in Kyiv, people are laying flowers at a building destroyed in a Russian attack
May 15, 2026, has been declared a Day of Mourning in Kyiv for those who died as a result of the massive Russian attack. Search operations have concluded in the Darnytskyi district of the capital, where a rocket had previously struck. Kyiv residents are bringing flowers, stuffed animals, and candles to the site of the destroyed high-rise building in memory of the 24 people who died as a result of the strike on May 14.
Near the ruins of the building, which became the epicenter of the tragedy, residents of the capital have set up a makeshift memorial. They are bringing flowers and stuffed animals here—in memory of the three children whose lives were taken by the Russian missile. Kyiv residents are not holding back their emotions; some are kneeling before the site of the tragedy.

Ukrainian President VolodymyrZelenskyy also visited the site of the tragedy today. “I paid my respects to the victims at the site of the building destroyed by a Russian missile strike. Here, Russia took the lives of 24 people, including three children. My sincere condolences to everyone who has lost family and loved ones due to this brutal terror,” he said.
City work continues near the site of the tragedy: utility workers are clearing freshly cut grass, and State Emergency Service units continue to dismantle the building’s damaged structures.
