Kyiv honors American volunteers who died fighting for Ukraine
On May 25, the National Reserve “Saint Sophia of Kyiv” hosted a memorial and cultural event dedicated to U.S. citizens who lost their lives fighting against Russian aggression.
The event took place on Memorial Day and was attended by military personnel, diplomats, and public figures.
The Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine served as one of the key organizers of this commemorative event.
Representatives of the GUR International Legion, fellow volunteers, and Ukraine’s foreign partners joined in honoring the fallen heroes.
Those present noted the significant contribution of American soldiers to the defense of our country’s sovereignty from the very first days of the full-scale invasion.
Foreign specialists not only took direct part in combat operations but also helped Ukrainian military personnel master the latest Western weaponry.
“The contribution of American volunteers since the very beginning of the war has been invaluable. They embody Western military culture and NATO standards, which we have always strived to achieve. When Western weapons arrived here, it was the American volunteers, with decades of practical experience, who served as conduits of knowledge and skills and accelerated the actual transition to new standards,” noted Volodymyr Kaminskyi, a representative of the International Legion of the Main Intelligence Directorate.
During the event, the organizers presented unique works of art created on wooden ammunition crates. The centerpiece of the exhibition was a performance surrounding the artwork “Crucifixion.”
The names of American citizens who gave their lives for the freedom of the Ukrainian people were inscribed on this installation.
