In Lutsk, a man stole a car and crashed into a fence

In Lutsk, a man illegally took possession of a Chery Tiggo, but he didn’t get very far in the stolen car—on a nearby street, he crashed into a fence. After the accident, the suspect abandoned the car and fled, but police apprehended him shortly thereafter.

Law enforcement was notified that an unknown person had broken into a Chery Tiggo and driven off in an unknown direction. An investigative team and a patrol police unit arrived at the scene.

The police identified the man who had unlawfully taken possession of the vehicle and determined the circumstances of the incident.

The suspect turned out to be a 35-year-old resident of Rozhyshche, born in 1991. According to preliminary information, the man, who had left his military unit without permission, got behind the wheel of someone else’s car.

However, he did not manage to get very far. On a neighboring street, he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a fence. After that, the man abandoned the car and fled the scene.

Police located the suspect and detained him. It is noted that at the time of his detention, the man was intoxicated.

Investigators are preparing to charge the suspect under Part 2 of Article 289 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—unlawful seizure of a vehicle.

Earlier, law enforcement officers in the Ternopil region detained a 42-year-old resident of the village of Horodnytsia, who stole two cars and caused an accident within a 24-hour period. The man was intoxicated.

An 18-year-old man suspected of stealing money from a 77-year-old man will stand trial in Rivne. A total of 5,175 euros and 33,000 hryvnias—amounting to over 300,000 hryvnias—disappeared from the pensioner’s dorm room.
