The Rada has named potential candidates for the post of prime minister

Following her resignation as prime minister, Yulia Svyrydenko will serve as ambassador to the United States, and the Cabinet of Ministers is set for a complete overhaul.

This was reported by People’s Deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak. Commenting on Zelenskyy’s statement regarding the resignation of Svyrydenko and several law enforcement officials, the deputy noted that the prime minister’s resignation entails a reshuffle of the entire government

As for the candidate for the new prime minister, according to his information, the authorities do not yet have a specific person in mind for this position. The candidates being considered include former Prime Minister and current Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal, Minister of Defense Mykhailo Fedorov, Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov, and Naftogaz Board Chairman Serhiy Koretskyi.

“So, let’s go over this again: replacing Svyrydenko from the post of Prime Minister with the U.S. ambassador is a somewhat forced move. One for which the government wasn’t particularly prepared. The final decision was made today at a meeting with the President at 1:00 p.m., so all other steps haven’t been thoroughly thought through.”
According to the schedule:

  • During this plenary week, July 13–14, the Prime Minister will definitely be dismissed. This means that the entire government will resign and become “acting.”
  • The role of Prime Minister will be temporarily filled by… Shmyhal, as First Deputy Prime Minister. Which is just epic )
  • It’s not certain that a candidate for Prime Minister and the composition of the government will be presented that same week. Let me remind you, these are two separate votes. The new Prime Minister submits the composition of the new government after being appointed.
  • “On Tuesday, the Servant of the People faction will address this issue,” Zheleznyak said.
