A dead Azov dolphin was found in the Tuzly Estuaries
The remains of an Azov dolphin have been discovered in the Tuzly Estuaries National Nature Park in the Odesa region. Environmentalists speculate that the animal may have died as a result of marine pollution caused by the actions of the Russian Federation.
This was reported by the UAnimals portal.
According to ecologist Ivan Rusev, the dolphin may have died after coming into contact with oil products, specifically Russian oil, in the water, after which the animal’s body was carried by the current to the shore.
Another theory being considered is that the cause of death was oil slicks and seawater pollution that may have entered the water as a result of Russian shelling.
Earlier, the ecologist reported a mass die-off of dolphins in the Sea of Azov linked to critical levels of pollution.
According to him, the situation may be the result of the accumulation of petroleum products, chemicals, fuel oil, and sewage.
“The ecological disaster in the Sea of Azov is linked to critical pollution of the sea with petroleum products, chemical compounds, fuel oil, and sewage, which the occupiers are dumping en masse into the sea,” he noted.
This is the first recorded instance of an Azov dolphin being found in the “Tuzly Estuaries.” Environmentalists emphasize that fishing is prohibited in this area, so it is unlikely that the animal died in fishing nets.
The exact cause of the animal’s death has not yet been determined, but experts do not rule out that it is a consequence of large-scale pollution of the marine environment.
In the Odesa region, within the Tuzlivski Limany National Nature Park, a significant expansion of the area contaminated with oil has been recorded; the oil entered the Black Sea following attacks on the port of Chornomorsk.
Earlier in the Odesa region, within the Tuzly Estuaries National Nature Park, nearly 2,000 swans were observed gathering near the reserve’s administrative building as the cold weather set in.
In the Odesa region, on the coast of the Tuzly Estuaries National Park, fuel oil was discovered and collected that had leaked due to an accident involving two Russian tankers in the Kerch Strait.
