In Zaporizhzhia, a woman was convicted of selling her own son to beg

A court in Zaporizhzhia has sentenced a 59-year-old woman to nine years in prison for trafficking her own child for the purpose of exploitation. She handed her 12-year-old son over to a stranger to be forced into begging.

This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General.

The investigation established that after losing her job, the woman decided to make money off her child. At first, she forced the boy to collect money on the streets on his own, passing it off as charity work.

Later, in December 2020, the woman agreed with an unknown man to “rent” the child. Under the terms of the agreement, the boy was handed over for begging in exchange for a payment of 600 hryvnias per day.

The crime was uncovered thanks to a concerned resident of Zaporizhzhia who noticed signs of child exploitation and contacted law enforcement.

Police detained the woman while she was handing over the boy and receiving the money.

The court found the defendant guilty of human trafficking for the purpose of exploitation and sentenced her to nine years in prison.

After the mother’s arrest, the child was immediately removed from the dangerous environment. The boy is currently at a social and psychological rehabilitation center, where he is receiving the necessary medical and psychological care.

In Ukraine, three more agents of Russian special services were sentenced to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property for sabotage, arson, and providing the occupiers with the coordinates of Ukrainian military personnel.

Earlier, a court sentenced nine Ukrainian citizens who fought against the Defense Forces on the side of the Russian Federation to up to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.

The SBU detained the head of the Medical Examination Commission in Kropyvnytskyi for selling disability certificates.
