In the Zhytomyr region, a soldier may have been poisoned on orders from Russia

A 17-year-old girl suspected of involvement in the death of a Ukrainian Armed Forces soldier has been detained in the Zhytomyr region. According to investigators, she may have acted on behalf of Russian intelligence services to poison the man.

In the Zhytomyr region, law enforcement officers detained a 17-year-old girl suspected of involvement in the death of a 27-year-old soldier, and investigators are currently examining the theory that the crime may have been ordered by Russian intelligence services, which adds particular significance and complexity to the case.

The incident occurred on June 4, when a woman from Zhytomyr contacted the police and reported that a tenant—a 27-year-old soldier in the Armed Forces of Ukraine who was temporarily living there—had been found dead in her apartment. At the scene, law enforcement officers seized physical evidence, including dishes with traces of an unknown powdery substance, after which the deceased’s body was sent for a forensic medical examination to determine the exact cause of death.

During the investigation, detectives identified a 17-year-old resident of Berdychiv, whom they located and detained in accordance with legal procedures; she is currently being investigated for her possible involvement in the soldier’s poisoning. According to police, the woman may have communicated via the Telegram messenger app with a man believed to be a representative of Russian intelligence services, and it was allegedly from him that she received a package containing a substance resembling a narcotic drug.

Investigators claim that her handler gave her instructions regarding a meeting with the soldier, after which they were together in a rented apartment where, according to the preliminary version, the woman mixed an unknown substance into his alcohol, and when the man lost consciousness, she left the scene.

Currently, the issue of notifying her of the charges and selecting a preventive measure is being decided, and her prior criminal history is being reviewed, as, according to the investigation, she has already been held accountable for drug-related crimes and other offenses. Law enforcement officials continue to establish all the circumstances of the tragedy and identify possible accomplices, and are also investigating the possibility that the suspect was influenced by external factors via online channels. This was reported by the National Police of Ukraine.

Earlier in Okhtyrka, a local resident detonated a combat grenade on the street, injuring the perpetrator himself, three law enforcement officers, and one passerby.

In Kyiv, a group of passersby attempted to prevent the detention of two conscripts by representatives of the Territorial Defense Forces, forcing patrol officers to draw their service weapons.
