Ukraine Calls for an Emergency UN Security Council Meeting Over Russian Attacks

Ukraine has requested an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council following the second massive shelling by Russia in a matter of days. Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga called on the Democratic Republic of the Congo, which currently holds the Council presidency, as well as the Security Council’s permanent members, to support this request.

The foreign minister emphasized that every Russian missile sends a message far beyond Ukraine’s borders, attempting to convince the world that violence trumps the law and fear trumps solidarity. According to the official, hesitant or weak responses are incapable of stopping the terror, so the international community must demonstrate unity and take strong, principled, and timely action to deter the aggression.

Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga announced this on X.

In Kyiv, the clearing of debris continues following the Russian attack on July 6. In the Podilskyi district, rescue workers recovered the body of another victim from under the rubble. This brings the death toll from the Russian strike on the capital to 15. Another 56 people were injured.

As a reminder, prior to this, the Russians launched a massive attack on Ukraine on the night of July 2
