Ukraine will send experts to Estonia to help protect the skies from drones

Foreign Minister Sibiga confirmed Ukraine’s readiness to send a team of experts to strengthen the security of Estonia’s airspace. The assistance will focus on preventing incidents involving drones that enter the airspace of the Baltic states and Finland due to the influence of Russian electronic warfare systems

This was reported on the foreign minister’s social media account.

During a meeting in Brussels with his Estonian counterpart, Tsahkna, specific steps were discussed regarding the development of defense cooperation and the exchange of experience in countering aviation threats. Ukraine seeks to provide practical support to partners whose airspace is affected by the deliberate diversion of Russian drones from their course. Sybiha also apologized to allies for incidents caused by the aggressor’s actions.

The parties separately agreed on a schedule for further bilateral contacts to coordinate joint efforts on the international stage. In addition to air defense, the ministers discussed increasing sanctions pressure on Russia and further military aid to Kyiv. Cooperation with the Baltic states remains a priority of Ukraine’s foreign policy in the context of countering hybrid threats from Russia.

Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna discussed the course of Russia’s war against Ukraine and opportunities to strengthen cooperation in the areas of air security and countering drones during a meeting with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha on Monday. The parties also raised the issue of risks to the airspace of countries in the region and coordination of actions in the field of drone defense.

The Estonian Ministry of Defense aims to streamline procedures for the procurement and use of drones in the military. To this end, amendments to aviation regulations have been drafted to make the process faster and more flexible. Officials explain that drones are rapidly transforming modern warfare, and regulations must keep pace.
