Ukraine is bolstering its defenses along the border with Belarus — Demchenko
Fortifications and minefields continue to be erected along Ukraine’s border with Belarus due to the threat of possible actions by Minsk and Moscow. According to Andriy Demchenko, spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service, engineering work on the border is ongoing along its entire length. Ukraine is strengthening its defensive positions to enhance security in this area.
Andriy Demchenko, spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, said this on television.
“In fact, since 2022, when Belarus opened its border to Russian troops, this sector has been receiving significant attention: engineering work is underway directly along the border line, and fortifications are being built along the entire length of the border with Belarus,” Demchenko noted.
According to him, units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are also creating minefields and explosive barriers in the most vulnerable areas to prevent the movement of military equipment.
“Overall, the border with Belarus remains a risk zone from which Russia—or Belarus, if it succumbs to pressure from the Russian Federation—could become more deeply involved in the war launched by the terrorist state against Ukraine. The Belarusian side may also attempt to destabilize the situation or take other actions using its own forces and resources,” said the State Border Guard Service spokesperson.
Demchenko emphasized that Ukraine must maintain strong defensive positions so that every Ukrainian soldier in this sector has the ability to counter any threats that may come from Belarusian territory.
