Volodymyr and Olena Zelenskyy congratulated Ukrainians on Vyshyvanka Day

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and First Lady Olena Zelenska addressed the nation with a message of congratulations on the occasion of Vyshyvanka Day, which is traditionally celebrated on the third Thursday of May.

In their joint festive post on social media, the couple emphasized the special and profound significance of traditional embroidered clothing for the entire Ukrainian nation.

The country’s leaders paid special attention to the fact that today, traditional patterns have taken on a new, symbolic meaning in the struggle for the country’s independence.

The Zelenskys emphasized that the genetic code of the Ukrainian people is now being created not only with threads on fabric, but also through the daily actions of millions of people.

The address states: “For centuries, we have been enchanted by its pattern, but now it is our turn to create it ourselves—through our lives, our struggle, and every new step. Every day, Ukrainians embroider it with their own hands, defending what is dear to them. Rebuilding what has been destroyed. Healing wounds. Teaching children and learning themselves. We preserve our memory and build our future. Happy Vyshyvanka Day, Ukraine! With a destiny we embroider independently!”

The president and first lady added a new joint photo to their public greeting, in which they pose in traditional embroidered shirts.
