Ukraine plans to sign a drone agreement with Iceland
Ukraine and Iceland have agreed to accelerate preparations for the signing of the “Drone Deal.” Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga announced this following talks in Reykjavík with Icelandic Foreign Minister Torgurdur Katrin Gunnarsdóttir.
During the meeting, the diplomats discussed the situation in Ukraine, Russian terrorism, the blockade in the Black Sea, and the intensification of Russia’s hybrid attacks and destabilizing actions in Europe. Sybiga expressed Ukraine’s readiness to share its experience in protecting critical infrastructure with Iceland and noted that they had discussed ways to deepen cooperation with the Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF).
In addition, the heads of the ministries coordinated their positions ahead of the week of high-level meetings at the UN General Assembly. The Icelandic side also expressed its readiness to provide Ukraine with energy support ahead of winter.
The minister announced this on X.
On August 23, Ukraine and Norway signed the “Drone Deal” agreement on defense and technological cooperation. The document provides for the exchange of technologies and expertise, as well as the joint production and development of unmanned systems and air defense systems.
On August 6, Yevhen Khmara, Ukraine’s Acting Minister of Defense, met with British Defense Minister Wes Streeting, during which the parties discussed the situation on the front lines, Ukraine’s needs, and further defense cooperation.
