Ukrainians have been promised a summer with electricity, but there are two conditions
The Ukrainian power grid is well on its way to getting through the summer without any critical power outages affecting the public.
This was announced by MP Serhiy Nahorniak, a member of the Verkhovna Rada’s Committee on Energy, Housing, and Utilities.
According to the lawmaker, the key factors affecting grid stability remain weather conditions and the intensity of enemy shelling.
Currently, energy officials are doing everything possible to prepare the infrastructure for peak loads, which traditionally occur during the hot summer months.
“Two nuclear power units are currently undergoing a maintenance campaign. The next two units will follow. Therefore, we should not experience any significant changes regarding scheduled work at nuclear power plants,” Serhiy Nahorniak explained on the “Kyiv 24” TV channel.
The deputy emphasized that Energoatom operates in accordance with clear technical regulations, which allows for balancing power generation while individual units are taken offline for maintenance.
This minimizes the risk of a shortage in the national power grid.
Despite the difficult circumstances, the lawmaker expressed cautious optimism regarding the country’s energy security over the next three months.
He believes that Ukrainians will be able to avoid extended power outages if the situation on the front lines remains predictable.
“I don’t think there will be any significant or prolonged blackouts. We’ll be counting on the work of our energy workers and on Ukrainians’ energy-saving habits,” the MP noted.
He added that citizens’ mindful use of energy-intensive appliances during peak hours is extremely important.
It is worth noting that Ukrenergo specialists are also constantly monitoring the condition of the main power grids that were damaged during previous attacks.
The gradual restoration of transformer substations is helping to improve the reliability of power transmission between regions.
Following Russia’s attack on the energy sector, Ukrenergo urged the public to conserve electricity
As a reminder, Ukrenergo does not forecast power outages on April 16
Over the course of a week, Ukrainian energy workers restored power to over 453,000 households that had been left without electricity due to shelling. The most restorations took place in the Donetsk and Odesa regions.
On April 13, energy consumption restrictions for industry were introduced throughout Ukraine.
