Lilia Podkopaeva has spoken out for the first time about the tragedy in her family

Renowned Ukrainian gymnast and Olympic champion Lilia Podkopayeva has broken her silence for the first time since the death of her mother, Lyudmila Petrychenko.

The athlete shared an emotional post on social media, honoring the memory of her dearest loved one on the ninth day after her passing.

The tragic event forced the sports star to step back from the public eye for a time to grieve with her family.

Podkopaeva admitted that the family fought desperately for Lyudmila Petrychenko’s life until the very end, hoping for a medical miracle.

“Nine days without you. And each one feels like the first. It’s empty where you were. It’s terrible where you should be. It’s lonely everywhere you won’t come anymore. We didn’t give up. We fought—until the last breath, until the last hope. Because you’re worth it. Because you deserve everything,” wrote the Olympic champion.

Lilia noted that her mother’s presence had been a fundamental pillar of support for the entire family for many years.

In her message, she emphasized that she now sees her mother’s traits every day in her own reflection and in her children’s personalities.

The athlete also shared how her family is coping with this irreparable loss, trying to support one another during these difficult times.

Podkopaeva’s message became not only a way to express her grief but also a symbol of deep gratitude for her upbringing and unconditional love.

“They say God chooses the best. Then He certainly knew whom He was choosing. Mom—your girls are growing stronger. Your grandson is growing up and succeeding. And in the mirror—it’s you. Always you. We love you. More than words can express,” Lilia added.
