In the Kirovohrad region, a court sentenced a soldier who hired a hitman to kill his former mother-in-law due to a personal grudge.
For organizing a contract killing, the man was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
According to the investigation, the defendant had long blamed his ex-wife’s mother for the divorce and the breakdown of their marriage.
The man believed that his relative constantly and rudely interfered in their family life, so he decided to take revenge and resolve the conflict once and for all.
To that end, the soldier carefully devised a plan and began actively searching for a potential hitman to carry out the contract killing.
To carry out his plan, the perpetrator found a suitable candidate and offered him a monetary reward for committing a serious crime.
To facilitate the task, the client provided the “hitman” with a detailed photograph of his ex-mother-in-law, as well as her exact address and detailed routes of her daily movements.
As an advance payment, the organizer gave the hitman 11,000 hryvnias and promised to pay fixed monthly sums after the woman’s death was confirmed.
However, the client was unable to carry out the criminal plan to the end due to the hired hitman’s conscientious stance.
“The hitman reported the proposal to law enforcement agencies and subsequently acted under their supervision,” the prosecutor’s office explained the details of the special operation.
In January 2026, operatives from the Security Service and the police successfully staged the victim’s murder right in her own home.
To confirm the work had been carried out, law enforcement officers took special photographs of the “body,” which they later sent to the client as evidence.
The Office of the Prosecutor General and the Main Directorate of the National Police in Kirovohrad officially announced the guilty verdict.
