Ukrenergo reported a 36% increase in Russian attacks on the energy sector
Russian forces have significantly intensified their attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. While at the start of the full-scale invasion, 3–4 drones were used to strike a single facility, they are now launching 20–25 drones simultaneously.
According to Vitaliy Zaychenko, chairman of the board of NEC “Ukrenergo,” the number of attacks on energy facilities this year has increased by 36% compared to the first half of 2025. At the same time, Russian troops are carrying out coordinated attacks, attempting to simultaneously disable both power generation facilities and electricity transmission systems.
“Ukrenergo’s losses alone have already approached 90 billion hryvnias,” Zaychenko noted.
He reported that Ukraine has already lost about 50% of its electricity generation capacity, with the greatest losses occurring in flexible generation.
In addition, due to forced power outages caused by Russian shelling, Ukrenergo has lost approximately 4 billion hryvnias in revenue since the beginning of 2026. According to Zaychenko, in January–April alone, power supply restrictions reduced actual electricity consumption by approximately 6.5 billion kWh.
The company’s CEO also provided data on the scale of the power outages. In January, an average of 6.1 million metering points were without power at any given time; in February, 6.5 million; and in March, 3.8 million. The highest figure was recorded on February 8, when more than 12 million consumers were simultaneously without power.
This was announced on July 10 by the chairman of the board of NEC “Ukrenergo” during the forum “Decentralized Generation in Ukraine 2.0,” according to Ukrinform.
As a reminder, emergency power outages were implemented in the Sumy region on July 8.
In Ukraine, rolling blackouts may be implemented due to increased strain on the power grid or as a result of Russian attacks on energy infrastructure.
In the temporarily occupied part of the Kherson region, the Russian occupation authorities have declared a man-made state of emergency due to widespread power outages.
