In Odessa, a teacher fell from the second floor of a school while washing windows

In Odesa, a teacher at School No. 53 suffered fractures to both legs after falling from the second floor while washing windows. City officials stated that the woman had not been assigned to perform this work, and she herself described it as her own initiative.

According to Yulia Filler, director of the Odessa City Council’s Department of Education and Science, the incident occurred during working hours on the teacher’s first day back from vacation. The victim is currently in the hospital; doctors are waiting for the swelling to subside before determining the next steps in her treatment.

The department emphasized that teachers are not permitted to be assigned to maintenance work, and that washing windows from the outside on the second floor constitutes work at heights and requires special certification.

The State Labor Service is investigating the circumstances of the incident. Meanwhile, education expert Viktor Gromov expressed doubt regarding the claim that the teacher acted on her “own initiative,” noting that such tasks are often performed by teachers while preparing schools for the new school year.
