Man arrested in Odesa for paying with fake USDT cryptocurrency
In Odesa, police detained a 32-year-old man suspected of fraud after he offered a businessman payment in USDT cryptocurrency, helped create a crypto wallet, and transferred invalid tokens to it. The suspect obtained a laptop, phones, and headphones worth around 100,000 hryvnias, but it was later revealed that the tokens had no real value.
According to investigators, the man notified the businessman about a supposed payment of over 2,500 USDT and thereby took possession of the victim’s property. The suspect admitted guilt and partially compensated for the damages. He faces charges under Part 4 of Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which carries up to eight years in prison.
This case highlights the importance of caution when dealing with cryptocurrency transactions, especially with unknown parties. Further investigation will help identify possible accomplices and prevent similar fraud in the future.
