A foreign hitman who was planning to kill a Navy officer was arrested in Odessa

In Odesa, the SBU’s counterintelligence unit foiled an assassination attempt on a high-ranking officer of the Ukrainian Navy and detained a foreign hitman during the attempted attack.

According to the investigation, the perpetrator was acting on behalf of the Russian Federation.

On the day of the assassination attempt, he was lying in wait near the residential complex where the officer lives, carrying a pistol with two loaded magazines. To avoid attracting attention, the assailant pretended to be repairing a bicycle.

When the officer’s car pulled up to the exit, the hitman threw the bicycle under the wheels and attempted to open fire. At that moment, he was detained by SBU officers who had been monitoring his movements in advance.

According to law enforcement officials, the detainee is a 37-year-old citizen of one of the Balkan countries. He arrived in Ukraine posing as a tourist, retrieved the weapon from a hideout, and tracked the target’s route.

The suspect has been charged with attempted terrorism. He is currently in custody and faces up to 12 years in prison.

A Ukrainian Armed Forces soldier who directed Russian strikes on Ukrainian positions in the Kursk region has been convicted.

As a reminder, the SBU detained a spotter for Russian strikes on Chernivtsi.

The SBU also exposed a Russian spy network that was planning terrorist attacks using teenagers.
