Ukraine has updated veterinary passports for pets
Ukraine is introducing a new format for pet veterinary passports. The State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection is beginning to issue updated documents that will contain current information about the animal and its owner.
“The updated veterinary passport is not just a new form. First and foremost, it complies with current legal requirements and is part of a new veterinary documentation system,” the statement reads.
Among the main changes: the document is issued using a standardized template approved in accordance with the new legislation; each passport has a unique identification number consisting of the code for Ukraine (UA), a series, and a serial number; the forms are printed exclusively by printing companies in accordance with the requirements established by the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection, which ensures their authenticity and protection against counterfeiting.
The State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection emphasizes that veterinary passports issued in accordance with previous legislation remain valid. Pet owners do not need to apply to have them replaced.
Currently, the new-style veterinary passport can only be obtained at state veterinary institutions authorized to issue veterinary documents.
To obtain the document, the animal must undergo a clinical examination, be identified in accordance with legal requirements, and have received the necessary preventive veterinary treatments.
The State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection urges pet owners to take a responsible approach to maintaining veterinary records. A properly issued veterinary passport in the prescribed format ensures continuous veterinary care for the animal throughout its life and is also a necessary document for travel, participation in exhibitions, change of ownership, and access to a range of veterinary services.
