Watermelon Prices Have Risen in Ukraine: How Much Does a Kilogram Cost in Supermarkets?
Watermelon prices have begun to rise in Ukraine. Over the past week, prices have increased by an average of 20%. This is due to a simultaneous decline in the supply of local watermelons and a rise in demand.
As of September 4, Ukrainian producers are selling watermelons for between 5 and 12 UAH per kilogram. The price depends on the quality of the product and the region where it was grown.
At the same time, prices vary significantly in supermarkets. Currently, a kilogram of watermelon costs:
- “Silpo” – about 20 UAH/kg;
- ATB – 14.90 UAH/kg;
- Varus – 10.90 UAH/kg on special offer, while the regular price is 14.90 UAH/kg.
Thus, the average price of watermelon across these three chains is about 15.30 UAH per kilogram.
The cheapest watermelons are currently available at Varus for a promotional price of 10.90 UAH/kg, while the highest price among the listed chains is at Silpo.
EastFruit analysts note that the supply of watermelons from Ukrainian farms is gradually decreasing. Some producers are already wrapping up the season, and at certain farms, the harvest of late varieties turned out to be smaller than expected.
At the same time, demand for watermelons has continued to grow over the past two weeks. It is precisely this combination of lower market supply and stronger demand that has caused the current price increase.
Despite the price increase over the past week, current watermelon prices in Ukraine remain lower than last year’s.
According to EastFruit, as of early September, watermelons are on average 27% cheaper than during the same period in 2025.
Thus, although watermelon prices began to rise toward the end of the season, on an annual basis, Ukrainian consumers are still buying this seasonal product at a lower price than last year.
