In Ukraine, there is a proposal to pay citizens for photos of traffic violators
An online petition has been filed in Ukraine proposing the introduction of a system under which citizens would be able to document traffic violations and receive a cash reward for doing so.
According to the initiative, photos or videos of violations can be uploaded via a special online service or mobile app. After the evidence is verified, the violation will be processed without calling the patrol police.
The petition’s author proposes paying the submitter 20% of the actual fine amount.
The document also calls for significantly stricter penalties for illegal parking in spaces designated for people with disabilities. The following fines are proposed:
- first offense — 10,000 UAH;
- repeat offense within one year — 20,000 UAH and a 6-month suspension of driving privileges;
- third offense — 50,000 UAH and a one-year suspension of the driver’s license.
At this stage, this is only an online petition, not a draft law. For the Cabinet of Ministers to consider it, 25,000 signatures must be collected.
