Prices for table beets have plummeted in Ukraine

Prices for table beets have plummeted in Ukraine

The Ukrainian market for vegetables used in borscht has seen a significant decline in trading activity. Sales of table beets have plummeted, and farmers are increasingly complaining about a lack of demand even at reduced prices.

This is reported by EastFruit.

To boost sales, producers are forced to lower prices even further. On the eve of the weekend, beets were offered at 3–8 UAH/kg ($0.07–0.18/kg), which is on average 19% cheaper than at the end of the previous workweek.

Experts attribute the situation to an increase in vegetable supply on the market: farms that previously refrained from selling are now actively selling their available stock. Additionally, a significant share of substandard produce is putting downward pressure on prices for high-quality beets.

It is noted that the current price of table beets in Ukraine is already, on average, 91% lower than in the third week of March 2025. Some market participants do not rule out a further drop in prices due to large beet stocks in local storage facilities.

Prior to this, prices for food wheat at Ukrainian Black Sea ports rose by $6 per ton FOB following the outbreak of war in Iran. They reached their highest level since August of last year.
