In Ukraine, between 30,000 and 60,000 veterans could potentially become teachers and instructors under a new program planned for implementation with U.S. support. The U.S. side intends to introduce free testing for veterans in Ukraine to assess their ability to teach courses in patriotic education and physical education.
According to Minister of Veterans Affairs Vitaliy Kim, in the U.S., the conversion rate based on the results of a similar assessment was 1–2%. Given the estimated number of approximately 3 million Ukrainian veterans, tens of thousands of veterans could become teachers. The program is being developed jointly with the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine to introduce elective courses in schools.
Vitaliy Kim emphasized: “I am in favor of every school having, at a minimum, an extracurricular class on patriotic education, plus the sharing of experiences, plus physical education. It’s also beneficial for veterans because they get to interact with children, contribute to society, and receive a salary.”
The official made this announcement at a press conference in Kyiv, according to Interfax-Ukraine.
The government is launching a large-scale housing support program for veterans.
A pilot project has begun in Ukraine under which certain categories of male and female veterans can receive long-term medical care free of charge. The service is intended for people who, due to injuries, trauma, or serious illnesses, require constant medical, rehabilitative, and social assistance.
