Over the past year, nearly 26,000 traffic accidents resulting in fatalities and injuries were recorded in Ukraine, with speeding being one of the main causes. In light of this, the Ministry of Internal Affairs plans to strengthen enforcement and accountability for repeat traffic offenders.
This was announced by Interior Minister Ivan Vyhovsky during a meeting of the Coordinating Council on Road Safety. According to him, the ministry is also working on developing a system for the automatic detection of violations, modernizing road infrastructure, and finalizing the development of a new Road Safety Strategy through 2030. The main goal of this program is to reduce accident-related fatalities by at least 30 percent with the participation of state agencies, local authorities, and specialized services.
